Everyday Entropy: Laplace’s Demon

If only we knew enough, we would have unlimited energy and we could see the future.  It is the ethos of the modern, persisting into the post-modern despite all evidence of impossibility.  Maxwell’s demon was debunked mathematically, but nobody noticed that Laplace’s demon died with it, and scientists and engineers never gave up on them.  Their promise is salvation, but their pursuit is our downfall.  What’s up with that?
